An interview with Mehmet Öğütçü, at TEAS Business Forum”

More than 250 Lords, MPs, Diplomats, academics, and businesspersons from Azerbaijan, Turkey and across Europe attended the annual TEAS Business Forum organised by The European Azerbaijan Society on 2 May.Hosted in the historic London venue of No. 4, Hamilton Place, off Park Lane, this provided a valuable opportunity to learn about the potential for western businesses in two of the world’s fastest-developing nations.

Entitled Azerbaijan and Turkey – Diverse Investment Opportunities, this event focused on a wide range of sectors, including energy; project finance and investment banking; development of the ICT industry; agriculture and food-processing. Altogether, nearly 40 speakers were on hand to give their expert opinions. In addition to his position at Global Resources Corporation, Mehmet sits on the board of General Energy as an independent non-executive director; serves as senior advisor to BG Group; and is the advisory board chairman for Invensys. He is also part of the international advisory boards for APCOWorldwide, KCS, Windsor Energy Group, European Policy Forum, The Oil Council, and the Beijing Energy Club.

Mehmet has over 30 years’ experience across roles in government, diplomacy, international organisations (NATO, IEA, OECD), banking, and energy. He was previously BG Group’s director for international and corporate affairs (2005–12); head of OECD’s Global Forum on International Investment and Regional Outreach Programmes (2000–05); principal administrator for Asia-Pacific and Latin America at the International Energy Agency (1994–2000); and a Turkish diplomat in Ankara, Beijing, Brussels and Paris (1986–94). Mehmet was also advisor to the late Turgut Özal, the late Turkish Prime Minister, amongst other positions.
